The Art of the Pitch On Friday, July 19th, Clean Energy Trust is hosting a discussion a lunch-and-learn discussion on the “Art of the VC Pitch.” This event will begin with a moderated discussion, and will feature perspectives from both sides of the table, highlighting key pointers and pitfalls of investor presentations. The goal of the discussion is to articulate a framework for storyboarding your next big pitch. After the discussion, two cleantech start-ups will be invited to pitch the crowd. Di Biase: Steve has over 35 years of experience in innovation management and business development at Lubrizol, and JohnsonDiversey. He is also the President of Premier Insights, LLC which specializes in management consulting for business development and innovation management. Prior to becoming the CEO of Laser Application Technology and a Vistage Chair he was the Chief Scientific Officer of Elevance Renewable Sciences where he led efforts to technology platforms in specialty chemicals. He has led Open Innovation efforts for acquiring technology for new ventures while serving as CSO and Senior Vice President at JohnsonDiversey. While at Lubrizol, he played a key role in the development of lubricants made from sunflower oil and was the Vice President – Emulsion Fuels where he had profit and loss accountability. As the Vice President, Research, Development, and Engineering for Lubrizol he provided global technical and scientific leadership for a centralized R&D function comprising 700 people and an operating budget of over $120 million. He has over 20 patents and a PhD in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University and is a guest lecturer on Innovation management at the Kellogg School of Business and an adjunct professor at Benedictine University. Adam Lerner: Adam Lerner is a Vice President at McNally Capital, a private wealth advisory group for family offices. He brings over 8 years of investment management experience in venture capital and private equity. Prior to joining McNally Capital, he was a financial consultant with Wachovia Securities acting in a portfolio management and equity research capacity. Conducting fundamental, deep-dive debt and equity analysis, he covered over 200 companies across capitalization ranges, style (domestic and foreign), and industry sectors. Adam began his career in 2001 with Lehman Brothers Inc. as an Operations Analyst focusing on business process and technology improvements. In addition, on a pro-bono basis, he has worked with start-up enterprises to streamline their business and strategic plans and develop their unit economic models. SingleSwitch (Indianapolis, IN) Presenters: Ken Green and Ashfin Izadian SingleSwitch is developing a single switch power inverter to eliminate the limitations of current inverters. Whereas modern inverters rely on a number of transistors, switches and capacitors to produce a purely sinusoidal wave output, this technology acts as a power amplifier to generate waveforms at a wide range of voltages. Because it only uses a single transistor, improvements in the quality of the waveform and frequencies generated can be obtained.
